Description
Not many weeks ago, Pakistan was being thrashed on these very pitches by the South Africans. But now they have turned things around since the series win in South Africa. As of today Pakistan has won the series by 3-1, now a win in the fifth game will only be a consolidation win for the Sri Lankans. We will have to see if they can get that consolidation point or will Pakistan humiliate Sri Lanka.

Shifting our focus to some of the top performers; Hafeez who looked likely to be axed from the squad and had no answers to the questions being asked by Dale Steyn has been destroying the Sri Lankan pace batter. In Four matches, he has already round up three centuries. Let’s hope he can repeat the feat in the fifth one day international. A major reason behind Pakistan’s fine performance has been its batting line up, outdoing itself. Shehzad, Maqsood, Boom Boom, Misbah, and Hafeez all have been in a fine knick, allowing Pakistan to put massive runs on the board. The fine bowling performances by Ajmal, Hafeez, Lala, were only further helped by the return of the Bulldozer (Umar Gul) to the Pakistani Pace battery. The Pakistani bowling line up too has completely bamboozled the Sri Lankan batting line up.

Before this series, Sri Lanka was top of the world, the number one team in T-20. Sadly they failed to deliver the Knock Punches in the ODI’s and choked under pressure. It can be argued that they were lacking Mahela Jayawardene in their backing line up and missed Parera in the team but Sri Lanka still had a very experienced batting line up and one of the most dangerous spin attacks, both of which were off the mark.

According to the latest ODI rankings, Sri Lanka is still above Pakistan by 5 points, a series win by 4-1 can reduce that difference, Pakistan desperately needs this win to rack some points and Sri Lankans power house really needs to save its face from embarrassment. Their fans are currently outraged at their loss to a team that was so easily taken apart by South Africa and that too on alien turfs. It was new seeing two newbie’s playing a crucial game such as the fourth ODI international and their lack of experience clearly showed; let’s hope that they will be able to perform better in the 5th ODI.

Sri Lanka desperately needs to win the 5th ODI and put an end to their label as the “Run Leakers”. They are certainly conscious of the importance of their victory yet need to bring their passion in practice on the ground. The 5th One day International is a must win for Sri Lanka in all estimations. It must be used as a platform to the teams out there that Sri Lanka means business, and it can also be used to unsettle Pakistan, who are quick to get on their high horse.
Whereas Pakistan need to be able to blast Sri Lanka off, their fans need assurances that Pakistani cricket is not going down the drain, as the newcomers Afghanistan even proved a tough fixture for Pakistan on their home ground. I am Personally looking forward to a boom boom show, both him and Hafeez have really silence their critics back home, let’s hope they can only add to the tally of good performances.
