We have reached the end of the 2nd day of ongoing CCL and all the eight teams have played a game each so far. Last year finalists, Telugu Warriors, got an unwanted start to their campaign to the CCL 2014. They lost to Kerala Strikers in the first game by 4 wickets, though we got to see an interesting encounter with the last ball finish.

The toss had gone Warriors’ way today but they couldn’t get a dream start as unfortunately both the openers got run out. In the third over the captain got run out for just 2 runs and soon after Joshi was bowled out by Pillai and departed in the fourth over of the game. Some good partnerships in the middle order, however, took Warriors’ total to 142 for the loss of 6 wickets at the end of 20 overs. The 38 run knock from Adarsh at the end of the inning proved helpful for Warriors in setting up a respectable total.

From Kerala, it was Kodiyeri who managed to take 2 for 36 in his four overs. Nair and Pillai took 1 wicket each as well.

The start wasn’t too good either for the Strikers as well and Nanda Kumar got a good one which hit him in front of the stumps. But, the quick 41 from Kodiyeri set the pace of the innings for them and they never looked back from that point. There wasn’t any other big contribution though, but some 10s got the job done for them. The second highest scorer for Kerala was the ‘Extra’, 27 of them and in fact this took the game away from Warriors.

From Warriors, the only impressive bowler was Adarsh who took 3 for 15 in only 3 overs. But he couldn’t manage to win it for his side alone with not much support from the rest of the crew.

The second game of the day was between Karnataka Bulldozers and Bengal Tigers, the strongest and the weakest team of the last edition of CCL. The result of the game was as expected and Bulldozers cruised over Tigers managing a huge 115 runs victory. After an early blow, losing Darsan in the first over, Pradeep and Rahul took over giving their side a 96 runs stand before Rahul got out in the 11th over. Pradeep continued to impress by scoring 73 of just 47 balls and was joined by Rajeev who played a cameo scoring 87* of just 34 balls taking the score of Bulldozers to 230 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

All the bowlers from Tigers proved to be really expensive with only Raja and Sandy managing to pick up a wicket each.

When Tigers came out on the field to chase the huge target of 231 runs, Joy got retired hurt after scoring just 5 runs. Their innings couldn’t really take off at any moment in the game as wickets kept falling one after the other. ‘Extras’ proved to be their highest score with 28 on the board. Saugata tried to put some resistance by scoring 24 runs of 22 balls but all in vain.

From Bulldozers all the bowlers bowled economically with Chandra and Bhaskar picking up 2 wickets each. It was a dream start for them and it seems that they have a long way to go this time around as well.

3rd Match: Kerala Strikers vs Telugu Warriors

2nd Game was between Karanatak Bulldozers vs Bengal Tigers. Bengal Tigers won the toss and decided to bowl first in 4th game of CCL 2014. Their decision of bowling first proved wrong by Karnataka Bulldozers opener Pradeep who smashed 7 fours and 3 big sixes and then Rajeev played an unbeleivable innings of 87 runs off just 34 balls. Rajeev innings included 7 fours and 7 sixes. Rajeev could score a century but overs exausted and Karnataka gave the target of 231 runs to opposition.

Bengal Tigers were not handy enough to chase down the target so Karnataka Bulldozers won their 1st game of Celebrity Cricket League T20 2014.
